Compassionate Leaders

You don’t really see personal and professional empowerment workshops blended together in some way because we are so used to a world where your personal life shouldn’t affect your professional life. However, as someone who has worked in multiple corporate, nonprofit, and volunteer-led settings, some of the most effective, compassionate leaders I have seen are able to blend the two worlds.

However, with the massive shift to remote work in 2020, our personal and professional lives were forced to merge unexpectedly. We didn’t have time to curate immaculate home offices. On video calls, we had our children and pets running in the background of our haphazard kitchen/spare room offices in the middle of big meetings. We heard “you’re on mute” more times than we’ve probably heard our own names at this point. We saw our coworkers in pajamas because after a while, “business casual” was a matching pajama set.

The curtain was finally pulled back between the worlds. The cat’s out of the bagel (I know that says “bagel” and not “bag”, but this is a deep cut quote from a 90s Nickelodeon cartoon that maybe 11 millennials will get, but I’m still leaving it in here in case).

The term “compassionate leadership” has been popping up more in recent years and honestly, capitalism will probably hijack this concept and cheapen it like “self care.” HOWEVER, on the Stay Golden end of things, we were compassionate leaders before the term ever existed. For us, compassionate leadership looks a lot like leaders who aren’t afraid to show their human side to their team because we know that isn’t weakness.

Hype Club

This is an 8 week program for leaders who still feel like “accidental” leaders. This program is limited to 10 leaders to ensure that discussion is ample and everyone has a chance to contribute. The goal is to reduce those feelings of imposter syndrome, increase your professional confidence, and practice getting in the habit of hyping people up (which includes yourself).

By the end of the 8 weeks, you will:

  • establish your top values and learn how they shape the decisions you make
  • know your origin story and what motivates you to lead
  • practice how to hype yourself up and how to hype others up
  • learn how incorporating reflection and gratitude into your routine can change how you view yourself

Where Life and Leadership Overlap: The Venn-tricular Diagram of Your Untapped Potential

Just as the heart’s ventricles are the powerful chambers that pump blood to the entire body, the various roles you have held in your life comprise the chambers of your identity. Where they overlap—in your personal ‘Venn-tricle’—is where you find the most powerful source of your purpose and energy, pumping meaning into everything you do.

This workshop encourages you to step outside of the box and reflect on all the roles you have had in your life. How did those roles influence you? What skills did you develop in those roles? We will take time to determine what you can incorporate into your current role to help you become a more authentic and whole-hearted leader.

The Main Character Energy Audit

We have had a string of “unprecedented” events in the last decade that have really affected us. It has been to the point where some of us have really had to take a step back from our lives and truly reevaluate what is important to us.

This workshop guides you through a values exercise to help you recalibrate. By the end of the workshop, you will be able to identify your top ten (10) values, how they relate to each other, and ideally, have better perspective on how to align your life according to your values. There is  an optional follow up workshop, Examining Your Character Arc: Authoring Your Origin Story, for those of you who want to take it to the next level and tell your story, centered around one of your values.

Examining Your Character Arc: Authoring Your Origin Story

We have all heard of the term “elevator pitch”: the hypothetical one minute window where you might get into an elevator with a really rich person who says, “Tell me your story by the time we get to the 10th floor and maybe money will fall out of my pocket for your ideas.” By the time you reach the 10th floor, hypothetically, you succinctly did your pitch and he is now Venmo-ing you with a $100,000 investment.

This workshop addresses real situations where you will need to tell your story, but you have more than a minute. You could be telling your origin story for different reasons: giving testimony in favor or against a bill, pitching a potential sponsor for your event, or even just telling your story in an unfamiliar place. We will take the values we discovered in The Main Character Energy Audit and use that as the foundation for authoring your origin story.

Unpacking Your Mental Griefcase: Examining the Weight You Carry

We often encounter experiences or events on a daily basis at our jobs, at school, or elsewhere outside of the home that can affect us to the point where we unknowingly take some of it home emotionally. However, we often don’t take enough time to pause and see what we are really carrying around with us in our “griefcases.”

This workshop creates a safe space for us to sit with grief: what is it? What does it look like? What am I grieving that I didn’t realize I was grieving? What am I carrying in my griefcase? Do I need to carry this everywhere or could I check some of this and have someone else help me with it? The goal is to have a better awareness and understanding of the role grief can play in our lives and guidance on when to ask for help to carry it.

It’s Boundaries, Bitch!

The term “boundaries” gets thrown around often, but when you ask someone to clarify what a boundary is, it’s typically some version of “telling someone not to do something or that you can’t do something.” While this is partially true, the guidance beyond that is usually very vague and involves blocking someone online.

This workshop focuses on every aspect of boundaries: defining what they are, what types of boundary categories there are, what those boundaries can look like, and real life examples of boundaries and how they were used in specific situations. This workshop is great for anyone who struggles with boundaries and is finally at a point where they are now needed to preserve your peace.
